After staying up most of the night on the 16th, catching up with John and Chika, (my lovely hosts), I spent most of the 17th just relaxing.
Except of course for a brisk walk to the post office and grocery store with Chika.
It was all downhill on our way out, and then all uphill coming back! Good exercise!

Identifying flowering trees using a phone app
The Sakura season ended in this part of the country just 4 days ago. But a few trees still have the bloom. Its just not as spectacularly pink because the green leaves have started poking through. There are other gorgeous flowers. A red magnolia variety, a rhododendron variety, and also a double petal variety of cherry blossoms, that aren’t as delicate looking, but beautiful all the same.
The next day, I packed up my bags and carefully brought them down the steeeeeeep steps with narrow treads, inside the house, and by afternoon, John and I took everything down the flights of steeeeeeep stairs leading to the road, and loaded it all in the car.
With a quick stop at the grocery store and market, we were on our way, driving straight through the mountain, to Sasayama, and on to Fieldwork, John’s studio at Tamba Sasayama.
My first view of the place.
There are two kilns that share a chimney!
The previous workshop group fired the smaller kiln. We’ll be firing the larger one. Exciting times ahead!

The Smaller Kiln

The Anagama
The days are going to be busy from here on, and I might keep the blogging to a weekly catch up rather than daily.
